Batch Rename Files with AI on Mac and Windows

Batch rename is the core Zush workflow. Install Zush, add a mixed folder, let AI suggest descriptive names, review the batch, then apply the rename in place.

Use Zush when each file needs a different name based on content:

  • screenshots with unknown context
  • photos and RAW imports
  • PDFs, scans, receipts, contracts, and reports
  • Office, iWork, text, and structured documents
  • Figma, Sketch, Illustrator, and PSD files
  • videos, screen recordings, subtitles, and audio files
  • mixed Downloads folders and project exports

For simple prefix, counter, or case changes, a rule-based rename tool may be enough. Zush is strongest when the new name must come from the file itself.

  1. Add files or a folder from Finder, File Explorer, Desktop, Downloads, iCloud, OneDrive, or a project folder.
  2. Choose the AI mode and naming setup: a Template, Naming Blocks, or a custom prompt.
  3. Review each suggested filename.
  4. Edit names inline or regenerate individual files.
  5. Apply the batch when the preview is ready.
  6. Use rename history if you need to inspect or revert the action.

Zush changes filenames after you approve the batch. It does not move files into folders automatically, and it does not replace your operating system search index. The value is in creating names and metadata that are easier to scan, sort, and search later.
