Batch Rename Files on Mac & Windows with AI

An AI batch rename tool renames many files in one workflow while giving each file a content-aware name. Zush reads screenshots, photos, PDFs, documents, videos, audio, and design files in mixed folders, then lets you review every name before applying changes.

Review a mixed batch before changing filenames

Zush gives each file its own content-based name while applying one naming convention to the batch. Use it for mixed screenshots, photos, and documents; a simple prefix or numbered sequence may only need your file manager’s rename tools.

  1. Add a small, representative selection of files. Choose the AI mode and a Template with the fields your folder needs.
  2. Generate suggestions and review the whole list. Check missing dates, weak descriptions, duplicate names, and file extensions.
  3. Apply the reviewed batch, open a few renamed files, and check rename history before processing a larger archive.

Illustrative pattern: known project prefix + description from the screenshot. Verify the project and description before applying.

A consistent pattern does not guarantee correct AI fields. Linked project files can depend on their original names; test copies first and keep a backup.

Smart Batch Rename

Analyze and rename 100+ file formats in one batch, from images, EPUB and FB2 ebooks, and PDFs to audio, video, and Office files. Describe any detail for Zush to extract, then reuse it as a Custom AI Block in any template.

Choose where AI runs

Choose Zush Cloud, BYOK, LM Studio or Ollama for the same review-first rename workflow.

Cloud AI

Goes through our relay to a commercial AI provider, under their standard API terms. The relay exists so the API key can’t be pulled out of the app.

Bring Your Own Key

Connect your own API key from Gemini, OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Claude for cloud renames; FREE includes 50 across all modes and PRO is unlimited. Keys are stored locally in secure platform storage.

Private Local AI Options

Keep supported analysis on your device with LM Studio or Ollama. Each local mode works offline after setup.

Watch one or multiple folders β€” including iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive folders. Zush runs in the background and processes new files automatically.

Batch rename methods compared

Choose the rename method by what must change

Choose content analysis when each file needs its own description. Choose a pattern-based method when the necessary text or numbering rule is already known. Check preview and undo options before applying a large batch.

Choose the rename method by what must change
MethodBest forWhere it stops
Finder / File ExplorerReplacing text, adding one prefix, or numbering a selection with the same ruleIt works from the current filename and cannot tell one invoice, screenshot, or photo from another.
Shortcuts / PowerRenameRepeatable pattern rules, regular expressions, dates, counters, and metadata already present in the fileThe useful naming logic must be known in advance; mixed folders still need to be sorted into predictable groups.
Scripts and CLI toolsEngineering workflows that need custom logic, metadata extraction, or integration with other automationThey require maintenance and normally cannot infer a distinct descriptive title from every visual or document.
ZushMixed folders where every file needs its own content-aware name, with preview, templates, and undoContent analysis is unnecessary overhead when one simple deterministic rename rule already solves the batch.
