Rename Screenshots Automatically on Mac and Windows

Rename screenshots automatically with AI using Zush to replace generic Mac and Windows timestamp names with searchable filenames based on the app, page, error, chart, or conversation shown. On Windows, this means screenshots from File Explorer folders such as Pictures\\Screenshots and Downloads can become readable names without manual right-click renaming.

3 secure ways to run Zush

Cloud AI that works out of the box, your own API key, or fully offline with Ollama.

Cloud AI

Goes through our relay to a commercial AI provider, under their standard API terms. The relay exists so the API key can’t be pulled out of the app.

Bring Your Own Key

Connect your own API key from Gemini, Groq, OpenAI, or Claude for cloud renames; FREE includes 50 across all modes and PRO is unlimited. Keys are stored locally in secure platform storage.

Private Offline AI

Run supported file analysis locally with Ollama. No analysis content goes to Zush cloud or third-party AI providers.

Watch one or multiple folders — including iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive folders. Zush runs in the background and processes new files automatically.

How to rename a screenshot on Windows 11

For one screenshot in Windows 11, select it in File Explorer and press F2, or right-click it and choose Rename, then type the new filename and press Enter. For a batch, add the screenshot folder to Zush so AI can propose descriptive names from each image’s content; review the list before applying changes.

  1. Open File Explorer and go to Pictures\Screenshots, Downloads, or the folder where Snipping Tool saves your captures.
  2. To rename one file, select it, press F2 (or right-click and choose Rename), type the new name, and press Enter.
  3. To rename a batch by content, add the folder to Zush, let it analyze the screenshots, review the proposed names, and apply the batch with undo available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Manually, select the screenshot in Finder or File Explorer and rename it like any other file. For automatic descriptive names, point Zush at your screenshot folder, review the AI name pattern once, and let new screenshots get names based on what they show.
